With only weeks to go until filming is set to begin for the Marvin Gaye biopic, Sexual Healing, Deadline.com reports that Lenny Kravitz will not play the late Motown star. This decision is following months of complaints and threats to take legal action against the film from Gaye’s son, Marvin Gaye III. Gaye III told TMZ: The producers and directors of this film are very wrong and shameful…[They're] trying to do a film about a low period in his life. They don't even know the whole story. Sexual Healing will focus of the slain stars time in Europe battling his alcohol addiction and trying to revive his career with the help of music promoter Freddy Cousaert played by Brendan Gleason. Kravitz has been replaced by former Law & Order star Jesse L. Martin. Martin was originally cast to play Gaye when the film was being directed by James Gandolfini. Sexual Healing is now being directed by Julien Temple. Although Kravitz will not be playing Marvin Gaye, he will reprise his role as Cinna in the upcoming Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire.   Deadline.com contributed to this report.
Ciara is back! After the less than stellar album Basic Instinct was released in 2010, Ciara hit the ground hard and is now ready to release her fifth studio album One Woman Army in June of this year. While her fans wait with bated breath for the new release, she dropped the new single from the album entitled “Body Party”. “Body Party”, which was co-written by her boyfriend and rapper Future (listen for his “ooo’s in the background) and produced by Mike WiLL Made It, is a return to traditional R&B-- simplistic and sensual. "I think when things just organically feel right, naturally good things come from it. He' s such an amazing, creative person," Ciara told Billboard about working with Future. "I can be very creatively expressive myself, but there's nothing like being able to work with someone that can bring a new flavor. What I like about [working with] him, it's almost like I got to learn more things about myself." Ciara’s vocals are smooth, balancing high soprano notes and rich alto tones seamlessly. The entire song is one huge seduction, enticing listeners to join her private party (or start one of their own). The chorus is hypnotic,…

AT&T wrapped up its 28 Days Black History Month campaign at the Millennium Centre in Southfield last night. It was free and open to the public and featured a live performance from singer/songwriter Elle Varner. The campaign, hosted by comedian, television/radio personality Rickey Smiley, kicked off in Washington D.C and made stops in Raleigh, Atlanta and closed out the series here in Detroit. For the past five years, AT&T has been committed to celebrating black history by inspiring people to challenge themselves and to become empowered. "Our goal is that they hear a message—an authentic message and they take that with them," said Jennifer L. Jones, Vice President of Diversity Markets for AT&T Mobility. "For a lot of young people, it is important that while they celebrate themselves as is, it is also important to understand why they are able to do the things that they can do." The series features a different speaker for every city. The speakers are innovative thinkers and leaders of our generation. This year, the host cities had the opportunity to hear from Kevin Powell, Corvida Raven and MC Lyte. Rappers we loved but disappeared

There are so many great, mediocre and lack-luster rappers on the radio today. But what happened to our favorites from back in the day? The rappers whose songs always seemed to be on the radio, no matter what station you turned to or the time of day? One day, they were all over the place, and the next day they were gone. Here's a list of rappers who made an abrupt exit.       Ja Rule was big in the early 2000's, but virtually disappeared after feuding with 50 Cent and  G-Unit, and Eminem and Dr. Dre. Last week he finished serving a two-year bid in upstate New York for gun charges. He still has to finish his sentence for federal tax evasion.   The first single from Chingy, "Right Thurr", peaked at #4 on the Billboard 100 in 2003 and he maintained a steady stream of success until 2006. The actor/rapper hasn't had a solid hit since "Pulling Me Back" featuring R&B singer/actor Tyrese.     Can you remember when "Hot in Here" played on the radio constantly for what felt like two years? Maybe Nelly just got too old to be relevant.         In…
If you remember, Fantasia Barrino recently slammed Jet Magazine on Twitter and on Instagram for running a ten-year-old photo of her as the cover of the magazine. She demanded an apology. Well, she didn’t get one, at least not right away. Jet’s editor-in-chief Mitzi Miller responded to her rant in a statement saying: “JET magazine is honored to have Fantasia grace the cover of its March issue,” her statement began. “It is unfortunate that Fantasia is displeased with the cover selection, however JET stands by its decision,” said Miller. “As standard editorial practice, JET consulted with Fantasia’s team, but reserves the right to select the image we deem as most appropriate for JET’s brand and reflective of the cover story sentiment… JET continues to root for Fantasia’s success and encourages her fans to pick up the new issue.” That doesn’t sound like, “I’m sorry” at all. But wait, it gets worse. Mitzi is so disgusted by the situation that, according to Richard Prince of Journal-Isms, she sends a Facebook message to her friends saying: “The fact that I wasted an hour of my workday writing a press release to address an issue created by a person who cannot even read…
Detroit will once again be the set of a Hollywood movie. The popular racing video game, "Need for Speed" will be filmed in Detroit this summer. According to the Michigan Film office, DreamWorks Studio has been awarded a tax incentive from the state of $1,370,852 on nearly $5 million of projected in-state expenditures. The movie will focus on a street racer who goes on a cross country journey for revenge after being framed and sent to prison—and of course fast cars! Originally, DreamWorks was only interested in using two local companies, Race Car Replicas in Clinton Township and Technosports Creative in Livonia to build cars for the movie. In a press release from Margaret O'Riley, director of the Michigan Film Office, said: Need for Speed was initially just looking at Michigan to do car builds for the film, but we were able to make the case that this was a terrific place to film the movie as well. This project fits so well into both our reputation as a great state for filmmaking and the automotive heritage Michigan is known for; it's a strong investment all around. "Need for Speed" is expected to employ over 100 Michigan workers which equals…

Janet Jackson married!

Janet Jackson and Wissam Al Mana tied the knot! It had been rumored that the lovebirds would get married in Qatar later this year, but we now know that the couple got married last year. “The rumors regarding an extravagant wedding are simply not true. Last year we were married in a quiet, private and beautiful ceremony,” the couple told Entertainment Tonight in their first joint statement on Monday, Feb. 25. “Our wedding gifts to one another were contributions to our respective favorite children’s charities. We would appreciate that our privacy is respected and that we are allowed this time for celebration and joy.” Janet has been married twice before, to James DeBarge and Rene Elizondo (whom she divorced shortly after the Velvet Rope tour). In 2009 she and Jermaine Dupri broke up after a long term relationship.   The newlyweds' official wedding photo above is by world-renowned photographer, Marco Glaviano. Follow Amber L. 50 Shades of Grey Movie Due Out Next Summer

The adult romance novel 50 Shades of Grey is following the trend in Hollywood and will in fact be made into a film and could be in theaters as soon as summer 2014. Adam Fogelson, chairman of Universal Pictures has confirmed that production is moving quickly, but methodically. "I don't believe that [EL James] had any interest in going to a studio where rushing it into production was the vision," Fogelson told The Hollywood Reporter. "I don't believe that the second or third film would have benefited from that strategy. Universal Pictures acquired the rights to the trilogy in March of 2012 and Kelly Marcel, writer of Saving Mr. Banks was announced as the screenwriter for the trilogy in October. The novel exploded to fame in 2011 and has sustained a steady stream of interest and intrigue since its release and spawned two more books. It started off as Twilight fan fiction and has grown to be the UK’s bestselling series according to Random House UK, and has sold over 20 million copies in the US. To be clear, the 50 Shades trilogy, is not a great work of fiction, but is good for a light read when you…

Lil Wayne: 'I F----- Chris Bosh's Wife'

Hip-hop icon Lil Wayne appears at his hometown Macy’s, in the Lakeside area of New Orleans, to meet fans and promote his contemporary streetwear brand TRUKFIT, on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 in Lakeside, La. (Photo by Jack Dempsey/Invision/AP) Apparently feeling like a jilted lover after being removed from the Miami Heat’s American Airlines Arena during the Heat-Los Angeles Lakers game on February 10, Lil Wayne went on a loud — and unnecessary — “F--- you” rant, targeting the Miami Heat players, the NBA and the wife of Heat player, Chris Bosh, reports MTV.com. At the Beats By Dre afterparty at Houston’s Stereo Live during All-Star Week-end, Wayne, or Lil Tunechi, or Weezy F Baby — or whatever else he’s calling himself these days — let it be known that he was not pleased with not being exalted by the Heat organization: “When I say f--- you say NBA.. When I say f--- you say the Miami Heat.” “You let them ni–---  know I’m from the streets so this ain’t no Twitter beefin or no online beef, just take it to the motherf–king streets, ni–a. F–k all them ni–as. F–k LeBron, f–k She-Wade, f–k Chris Bosh, f–k all them ni–as, man.…
Keke Palmer and Naitia “Lil Mama” Kirkland have just signed on to play Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas and Lisa “Left-eye” Lopes, respectively in the upcoming biopic about TLC. They join Drew Sidora who will portray Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins in the made-for-TV movie. The famed group rose to stardom in the early 90’s with their debut album “Ooo….On the TLC Tip”. Throughout their career, they faced bankruptcy, abuse, arson, in-group fighting and the untimely death of Left-Eye. But they were also one of, if not the most influential girl group of the generation. A movie is much deserved. The movie will begin filming next month in August and will air on VH1. Follow Amber L.
