Former Xscape Band Member Wants Reunion

90s R&B fans were super excited to find out Jermaine Dupri was putting together a one night only concert celebrating the 20th anniversary of the launch of So So Def Records. Dupri got most of his former groups to reunite for the special event, except for one–Xscape. Despite three of the original members, including LaTocha Scott, Tiny Harris, and Tamika Scott, Kandi Burruss will not be participating. Bow Wow recently went in on his former label mate in a post on Facebook claiming Burruss was foul for not wanting to be apart of the So So Def show seeing as though Dupri launched her career. Now Kandi's former group member, LaTocha Scott, has echoed Bow Wow's sentiments in an interview with radio DJ Egypt. Scott talked to Egypt about Kandi not wanting to reunite with the group. Scott said: "I think we owe it to the fans, to the people. They put us all here. You know we're successful and people were calling us because of what the fans allowed us to do and that's the scene. You know the universe opened up for us in '93. We were able to sign to So So Def very early on. We…

Did Adele clash with Chris Brown at the Grammys?

An image of Adele having what appears to be a testy exchange with her fellow performer Chris Brown at this past weekend's Grammy Awards has gone viral and led to some speculation about a clash between the two superstars. The Huffington Post alleges that Adele may have been chastising Brown for refusing to take part in a standing ovation for the best contemporary R&B award winner, Frank Ocean. Ocean and Brown were involved in a well-publicized physical confrontation (reportedly over a parking space) earlier this month in Los Angeles. Although he was allegedly assaulted, Ocean has opted not to press charges against his controversial colleague. However, the photo below, which was also taken at the 55th annual awards, suggests that the photo is likely being misinterpreted by music fans. What do you think? Was there real tension between Adele and Brown or is this all being blown out of proportion? http://thegrio.com/2013/02/12/did-adele-clash-with-chris-brown-at-the-grammys/

2013 Grammy Awards: Where is the R&B?

Stars from all musical genres commenced upon the Staples center on Sunday for music's biggest night. Yet, perhaps one of the most striking highlights relates to what we did not see. The noticeable absence of R&B is something that might have you contemplating 'what's really going on?' For years, many of music's biggest icons have belonged in one shape or another to the genre that traditionally defines black music. The rise of hip hop over the past couple of decades has changed the face of urban sound. But, is there not room enough for an assortment of musical types? The presence of other genres and their seemingly widespread appeal is without denial. In recent years, we've witnessed a resurgence of indie, folk music, and jazz. Country continues to hold onto to it's mainstream appeal. Why is it that genres without nearly as many mainstream acts have managed to have twice as much presence at awards shows? There is also the question with regard to the billboard charts. The fact is, black artists continue to struggle to make it on the Top 100. It seems a enough of a challenge to fall on the genre's list. What's to blame for the…

Grammy Performance Recap

I'm still waiting on music's biggest night, because the 55th Annual Grammy Awards were not it. I wish I could blame it on the newly enforced dress code implemented by CBS, but the Grammys were boring last year too. I'm sure the network and the Grammy "powers that be" will considered the night a success. No wardrobe malfunctions, no obscene comments, no interrupted speeches. The night went off without a hitch. But DEAR GOD! There were only three performances worth seeing, the nominees were garbage, and the energy in the room was nonexistent. I'm not saying that the awards should be scandalous, but the Grammys hypes up these epic "Grammy-moments" and the kept falling flat. Here's a recap of music's lamest night of the year. Taylor Swift opened the show, and while  she looked cute, her "Country-lite" performace was awkward,t,stiff and unimpressive. Pretty much set the tone for the whole night.   Miguel and Wiz Khalifa were by far one of the favorite performances. Miguel sounds amazing live! JUSTIN'S BACK!!! And looking very sexy his "Suit and Tie". Very class performance and a ton of fun to watch such an original artist show off. Show out to Jay-Z and his…

Nigel Barker Back on TV

If you're like me, you've been missing the sexy British, noted fashion photographer and (former) America's Next Top Model judge Nigel Barker. I know when I tuned into ANTM last cycle and realized he wasn't there I immediately changed the channel. Well, happy news—Nigel Barker will be back on television next week as the host of a new reality show, "The Face". The modeling competition also features supermodels Naomi Campbell, Coco Rocha, and Karolina Kurkova as coaches and mentors for aspiring model competing for the grand prize—a gig as the face of ULTA. So how is this show different from ANTM? In an interview with OK! Magazine, Nigel Barker had this to say: "Yes, it's a show that has the [word] model in it. But the huge difference is this is a very authentic take on what this business is. It's real jobs, it's real models, it's real supermodels and the contestants are cast from all over the world—not just from America," Nigel explained. "It's a shake up of the business and it's not about being America's this or that. You could be the face of the world and I think that's what's so exciting." Another big difference is there…

Busted! Celebrity Sightings

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and celebrities spend a lot of money and effort making sure that those thousand words say exactly what they want them to say. But it's the candid shots at the grocery store or at the airport that are the most satisfying and telling. Look and see which celebrities we caught wandering around. No More Sad Love Songs from Toni?

Amber L. Bogins Toni Braxton may be "chucking up the deuces" to music. In an interview with the Tom Joyner Morning Show yesterday, Toni, when asked about new music replied, "I don't know if I'm going to be doing anymore music, I've said that before in the past but I don't know...I just don't know. Maybe I'm mad at music. I don't know what is. I can't, my heart's not in it right now." This would not be the first time that the "Un-break My Heart" singer announced that she would quit music. Back in 2008 following a series serious heart-related health scares, Braxton contemplated retirement, but found herself signed to Atlantic records and released her sixth album in 2010. She may just ready to concentrate on new projects. Between the reality show "Braxton Family Values" and her upcoming Lifetime movie "Twist of Faith" (her autistic son Diezel makes is acting debut), we will not be Toni Braxton-less anytime in the foreseeable future. Perhaps she's just making room for baby sis Tamar to have her moment in the spotlight. Follow Amber L. Bogins on Twitter @AmberLaShaii

Chris Brown Goes Off... Again?

Chris Brown is often the scapegoat for a slow news day. He is the man, the public loves to pick on. I will even go as far as to say, some people even want to see him fail and when he's close to slipping over the edge, #TeamHateBreezy is there to deliver the final push. He was recently involved in a fight with "Thinking Bout You" singer Frank Ocean, who insists Breezy threw the first punch, inciting the brawl that made headline news the next day. With Brown's violent history and Frank–R&B Jesus to the LGBT community–no one would even think twice about contesting Frank's claim. Anyways, that's a whole other story! Breezy, who even I have said needs to have a seat, took to Instagram to share his frustrations regarding the Ocean altercation, recent legal troubles regarding him allegedly providing false information to the courts about his community service hours and the everyday scrutiny of his existence. "I'm wise, I can handle the hate but enough is enough yo!!," he said. "Even if I did relax, I wouldn't stop hearing about it ... telling me to ignore it is like telling me to walk around with a blindfold and…
