Michael & Whitney Vegas Musical

What would a story that combines Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Elvis Presley's rise and fall from fame be like? Well soon, audiences and fans will be able to see for themselves. Those who helped to manage Michael Jackson's career are coming together to create a musical called "The Man" about what the process is like behind the making of a star in the eyes of a manager, inspired by three of the most famous singers the world has ever seen. Producers Mark Lamica, Quincy Krashna, Jerry Greenberg, Raymond Del Barrio and Larry Hart were all in MJ's managerial camp in some way, and they are calling it a cross between "Dreamgirls" and "Goodfellas." Lamica called the musical an "epic, music driven dramatic work," and gathering from his experience working with MJ, he describes the production as being "a fictional template and story that, with some variation, fits a number of global celebrities," he added. "We want this project to be a compelling, gritty, entertaining tale, that tells the story of the price of fame in a new way," he continued in a statement. "The Man" is projected to open in Vegas in fall 2013 and will feature original music,…

2012 Person of the Year

2012 Person of the Year: Barack Obama, the President Twenty-seven years after driving from New York City to Chicago in a $2,000 Honda Civic for a job that probably wouldn't amount to much, Barack Obama, in better shape but with grayer hair, stood in the presidential suite on the top floor of the Fairmont Millennium Park hotel as flat screens announced his re-election as President of the United States. The networks called Ohio earlier than predicted, so his aides had to hightail it down the hall to join his family and friends. They encountered a room of high fives and fist pumps, hugs and relief. The final days of any campaign can alter the psyches of even the most experienced political pros. At some point, there is nothing to do but wait. Members of Obama's team responded in the only rational way available to them — by acting irrationally. They turned neckties into magic charms and facial hair into a talisman and compulsively repeated past behaviors so as not to jinx what seemed to be working. In Boca Raton, Fla., before the last debate, they dispatched advance staff to find a greasy-spoon diner because they had eaten at a similar…

Tyler Perry's New TV Projects

Tyler Perry has announced his first contributions to Oprah's OWN network, and judging by the show descriptions, you've seen them both before under different wrapping. Not that it matters because Mr. Madea's fan base is loyal and will be frying chicken and parking right front of the TV to watch them both. And this is not an insult; who doesn't love fried chicken? In any event, here's the new show info:The Haves and the Have Nots is a drama about the dynamics of the affluent Cyrer family and the impoverished family of their housekeeper, Hanna, and the obstacles and secrets that exist within both. Love Thy Neighbor, meanwhile, is a multicamera comedy set at Love's Diner, where every day the menu serves up good food, great laughs, valuable life lessons and a lot of love for its zany neighbors. http://theurbandaily.com/1998075/tyler-perry-announces-latest-tv-projects/

Wendy Williams Disses Beyonce

Loud-mouthed talk show diva, Wendy Williams, is known for her irreverent, no-holds barred take on celebrities, but when she tackled the intelligence — or lack thereof — of reigning R&B diva, Beyonce, the reaction was not quite what she expected. The Huffington Post reports: Seconds after declaring herself a fan of the singer, talk show host Wendy Williams went on to diss the singer, effectively calling her dumb. While talking about Beyoncé's upcoming self-directed HBO documentary about her life, Williams slammed Bey: "I am a Beyonce fan. I'm gonna watch her upcoming documentary because fortunately one of the TVs in our kitchen has closed captioning so I'll be able to understand what she says. You know Beyonce can't talk. She sounds like she has a fifth grade education." The studio audience booed in response to Williams and she got a little defensive: "Excuse me, I just said I was a fan. But we have to call a spade a spade." Beyonce's less than stellar grammar seems to be a recurring criticism for the 'Run The World' songstress, whose letter to First Lady Michelle Obama garnered harsh responses and even laughter. When she was honored with an award from the National…

Comedian Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell may soon combine their talents on the big screen. According to Deadline, Warner Brothers is currently in negotiations to acquire Get Hard, a comedy that will star Ferrell and Hart. Thus far, "the plan is for Ferrell to play a rich, soft-handed investment bank manager who is sentenced to a maximum security prison for a crime he didn't commit. The script for Get Hard will reportedly be written by Ian Roberts and Jay Martel who currently serve as showrunners and executive producers for Comedy Central's Key & Peele. Ferrell is currently filming the sequel Anchorman: The Legend Continues. Hart is coming off the success of his hit Think Like A Man, and his sold out national comedy tour Laugh At My Pain. Elle Varner Talks The State Of R&B

Few artists have had a better 2012 than singer-songwriter Elle Varner. This year, the 23-year old released her major label debut, Perfectly Imperfect, which was met with positive reviews from music critics, and even managed to snag a Grammy nomination. She's even had first lady Michelle Obama endorse her music. Her easily relatable lyrics about matters of the heart, combined with her unique look and fashion sense, make Varner a much-needed breath of fresh air in what some consider a stale genre. Even though she's had individual success, Varner expresses her excitement about some of the newer artists to R&B and what they can collectively accomplish in the genre. "The current class of R&B is like a volcano set to erupt," said Elle Varner. As she wraps up the Chapter 5 tour with Miguel and headliner Trey Songz, the "Refill" singer sat down with theGrio to discuss state of R&B, and what she has learned about herself over the past year. Watch the full interview here http://thegrio.com/2012/12/11/elle-varner-rb-is-like-a-volcano-set-to-erupt/#50151490

Beyonce's $50 Million Pepsi Deal

Beyonce has signed a $50 million deal with Pepsi, The New York Times reports. The agreement includes traditional promotional appearances and a new commercial, but also the beverage company's investment in a number of the singer's creative projects. Pepsi's move is in line with a trend toward content creation as advertisers seek new inroads into the music business and labels' marketing budgets continue to decline. Red Bull -- through its Red Bull Music Academy and Red Bull Media House -- has been funding original content for some time now, as have Scion and Converse. Beyonce will appear in a new TV spot for Pepsi, a brand she has been involved with since 2002. Her previous ads have included Britney Spears, P!NK, Jennifer Lopez and David Beckham. She's also performing at the Super Bowl halftime show, which is sponsored by Pepsi. Billboard notes that Pepsi and rival Coca-Cola are the biggest players in advertisements that touch on music. The two companies have spent over $330 million on campaigns involving entertainment and sports figures. The Times notes that both brands each spent $148 million on domestic advertising in the first six months of 2012. Jay-Z and Beyonce were the highest-paid celebrity couple…

LL Cool J's New Album

LL Cool J says he is not catering to the children with his forthcoming album, Authentic Hip-Hop. Speaking with Rolling Stone, the legendary emcee discussed how "mature" his new project is and how he is "not pandering to chase teenagers." This is for their mamas, daddies, uncles, and aunties. Via Rolling Stone: "It's real natural and true, and it's really me being myself," LL Cool J told Rolling Stone of the album – his first since 2008′s Exit 13 – during rehearsals for tonight's CBS' Grammy Nominations Concert Live, which he's co-hosting with Taylor Swift. "It's mature. I'm not pandering to chase teenagers. They're welcome to listen to it, but it's really a record for their parents . . . But it's for their parents who know the words to 'Rapper's Delight,' know the words to 'The Message,' know my songs, know my music." Luckily for fans of the rapper's old-school, irreverent rhymes, relating to an audience that's his own age doesn't mean he's dropping his trademark jocularity. "Some of it's stupid, some of it's funny, some of it's mindless, brainless. And some of it is quite profound and a little bit more advanced and challenging intellectually," he says of…
