Katt Williams Quitting Stand-Up

Troubled comedian Katt Williams is quitting stand-up after a series of bizarre behavior, alleged assaults and multiple arrests. Williams made the announcement during an interview with Seattle's KOMO News on Monday. "I'm just gonna go ahead and announce my retirement from stand-up, I'm kinda done," Williams told KOMO. "I've discussed it with my kids, I wasn't gonna do in the middle of a Seattle street, I was going to go to Los Angeles and do it in the offices of ICM or LiveNation." A message on Williams' website reads: "Will Katt ever do stand-up again?" Williams complained about being kicked out of the Lake Union Marriott. The comedian was booted from the hotel after guests complained about smelling marijuana and incense from his room, The Seattle Times reported. Williams said he hopes to stay on a Washington State ferry with his family and crew until his Thursday court date. "If they will accept our bid... I will take me and my whole staff on that boat because I still have a court date four days from now and can't leave and I've been kicked out of four hotels in two days and I've been arrested by three different sets of…

“Trapped In The Closet” Book

If you had any doubt in your mind that R. Kelly's "Trapped In The Closet" series is here to stay, here's your final confirmation: There's a book version of it company. Speaking with Fast Company, the singer-songwriter-producer says he's hard at work on a literary version of his Negro telenovela. The interview revealed: The "Trapped in the Closet" book you see as an infomercial in the new chapters is a book that's on its way, that I'm writing. I know where Chuck was before he met Rufus. I know what was happening before they actually met. I know what happened with Bridget and the midget and everybody else's situation. So I feel like the fans have supported "Trapped in the Closet," so I feel like it's time to introduce them to these people before what they saw. It's the prequel meeting the sequel. You'll get to find out a lot of things you don't know, or that you can't know, unless you read the book or unless I tell you–so I decided to do a book on it. http://theurbandaily.com/1989421/trapped-in-the-closet-book-on-its-way/

Kimora Lee's New TV Gig

LOS ANGELES — JustFab is ready for the small-screen spotlight. When the online fashion retailer revealed last year it had brought Kimora Lee Simmons on board as president and creative director, it was only a matter of time before a television show featuring Simmons and JustFab was in the works. That show now has a title — its eight, hour-long episodes will be called "Kimora: House of Fab," a twist on "Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane," the series that for four seasons followed Simmons' family life and her previous role as creative director of Baby Phat. The show will premiere Jan. 23 at 9 p.m. on the Style Network. "Kimora: House of Fab" has been filming at JustFab's Manhattan Beach, Calif., offices since June, and Simmons and Don Ressler, co-chief executive officer of JustFab's owner Intelligent Beauty, emphasized it will focus on the company, not Simmons' personal affairs. "My businesses have evolved a bit. My former life is gone. I have sold all of those companies from my prior life, and my new project is JustFab.com. This is all about fashion and the tech sector, and how I have married fashion to the tech aspect, and that's a big…

Nicki Minaj receives apology

Rapper Nicki Minaj received an apology from rocker Steven Tyler over comments he made about her in a recent MTV News interview, according to the New York Daily News. I am the last thing on this planet as far as being a racist." theGrio: Nick Minaj blasts Steven Tyler over 'racist' comment American Idol judge Minaj called Tyler "racist" earlier this week over remarks Tyler made about the her feud with fellow judge and singer Mariah Carey. Tyler went on to imply that Minaj would not be able to spot talent if it were right in front of her. "These kids, they just got out of a car from the Midwest somewhere, and they're in New York City — they're scared to death! If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield! Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us, we would have brought the best of him out, as we did with Phillip Phillips. Just saying," Tyler told MTV News. Minaj went on a Twitter tirade…

Did Tyler Perry Plagiarize?

Will Tyler Perry make a full-length feature for Madea Goes to Court? Well, not exactly. It looks as though Perry is being sued for ripping off the plot to Good Deeds. Author Terri Donald said Perry's film Good Deeds was based off of her book Bad Apples Can Be Good Fruit. She went as far to ay she sent a copy to Perry well before the film was even made. Donald is seeking $225,000 in damages as well as an injunction to add a book credit in the opening and closing credits. I haven't seen Good Deeds, but if it was anything like his other movies (I'm clumping The Family That Preys in here too), then I probably wouldn't claim it. But since he made a cool $35 milion at the box office for the flick, I don't blame her. Make that money, girl... http://theurbandaily.com/1988315/did-tyler-perry-plagiarize/

Chris Brown Quits Twitter

Chris Brown deleted his Twitter account Sunday night amid negative attention stemming from a nasty exchange with comedian Jenny Johnson. The vitriolic, NSFW exchange started when Johnson responded to Brown's tweet of "I look old as f***! I'm only 23..." with "Being a worthless piece of s*** can really age a person" and went south from there. "I have zero respect for a person who seems unapologetic for the terrible crime he committed and shows no signs of changing," Johnson later added. She also shared a link to an MTV story that detailed Brown's February 2009 assault on ex-girlfriend Rihanna, with whom he has since reconciled. (In fact, Rihanna, herself an avid tweeter, shared a shirtless photo of Brown just the night before.) Brown maintained a nonchalant attitude about the conversation at first but appeared to be affected by the conversation several hours after it had ended. He tweeted, "Just ask Rihanna if she mad?" and followed up with a line about how society was immature. He then deleted his Twitter account altogether. RECAP: Soul Train Music Awards

The 2012 Soul Train Awards was a celebration of R&B/Soul music like no other! Taped at Planet Hollywood Live Las Vegas and simultaneously airing on BET and Centric, the ceremony was hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, who tried to "soul Vegas up" in vignettes throughout the show. This was the first Soul Train awards after the untimely passing of founder/creator Don Cornelius, whose influence on music is still felt till this day. The show was filled with tributes to Cornelius and words from his son Tony Cornelius, a moment symbolizing the passing of the torch. There were so many great performances. The show opened with a medley of performances by Raphael Saadiq channeling Johnnie Taylor, Leah Labelle's tribute to Teena Marie with "Square Biz", Anthony Hamilton sang Bill Wither's "Lovely Day," and Fantasia had the auditorium shouting with her Aretha Franklin cover of "Don't Play That Song For Me." Charlie Wilson performed his Gap Band hit "Outstanding." NeYo broke it down with "Let Me Love You" in an all cream ensemble, and Keyshia Cole belted "Trust and Believe" then melted in to "Enough of No Love" minus Lil Wayne. John Legend performed "Tonight (Best You've Ever Had)" while seated at…

5 TV Leading Ladies Who Couldn’t Cook!

Most women (certainly not all) take pride in their ability to throw down in the kitchen. Fried chicken, collard greens, baked mac and cheese... are just some of the soul food recipes I inherited as a young girl from my mother. She would always say, "The way to a man's heart, is through his stomach," and she wasn't talking about boxed banana pudding either! I am one of those chicks who stays up 'til 3am Thanksgiving Eve, bathing a once-wild bird and prepping the collard greens with smoked turkey neck bones and my grandmother's secret ingredients. But, not every female does the same. In fact, some ladies, I'm sorry to say this, just can't cook! And, there is no better example than the ones we see on TV. Between Gina Waters' Cajun burnt cooking and Peggy Bungy's non-cooking, we have put together a list of our favorite characters who couldn't even boil water!Gina Waters- "Martin" Poor Gina, all she did was "snap them raggedy a** peas." In one of the funniest "Martin" episodes to grace the television circuit, Gina and her best friend Pam competed against Martin and his boys in a Thanksgiving throw-down for the ages! Rachel- "Friends" Rachel…

(Photo by Carlos Alvarez/Getty Images) Rock star Lenny Kravitz has been rapidly building up his filmography with high-profile supporting turns in 2009′s Precious and this year's The Hunger Games. Yet his next major role may propel him to the next level as an actor. The singer has been cast as the legendary Marvin Gaye in an upcoming biopic according to London's Evening Standard. The film, which is slated to be directed by acclaimed British filmmaker Julian Temple, is supposed to focus on Gaye's late career when he lived in the United Kingdom and was battling financial difficulty and alcoholism. Marvin Gaye biopics have been rumored for years, with actors as diverse as Jesse L. Martin and rapper Common expressing interest in the lead role. However, none of these projects appear to have advanced past the stages of early development. No title or start date for the Temple-Kravitz film has been announced yet.   http://thegrio.com/2012/11/20/lenny-kravitz-cast-as-marvin-gaye-in-upcoming-biopic/

Bey Getting Sued

Beyonce may have to show off her moves in court to face down a $100 million breach of contract lawsuit brought by video game company Gate Five, the Hollywood Reporter reports. Gate Five claims Beyonce broke a licensing contract in 2010 to develop a dance video game called "Starpower: Beyoncé," costing the company profits and 70 jobs. A New York appellate court last week upheld a judge's decision from December that the case should move forward. Beyonce contended in her appeal that she had a right to void her contract with Gate Five, arguing the company hadn't obtained sufficient financial commitment for the project, according to the Hollywood Reporter. A termination clause in the video game contract mandated that a certain amount of money be in place by an agreed-upon date or Beyonce could bail, Courthouse News reports. Gate Five alleged it had already invested $6.7 million in the game and had arranged for $19.2 million in backing when Beyonce tried to renegotiate the deal and then dropped out. As the Hollywood Reporter noted, the denial of Beyonce's appeal does not imply any guilt in the case, only that evidence should be heard.   http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/19/beyonce-lawsuit-100-milli_n_2158954.html?utm_hp_ref=black-voices&ir=Black%20Voices

Psy/MC Hammer AMAs Mash-up

(CNN) -- We should've known something was up when Psy took the stage at the "American Music Awards" in a pair of Hammer pants. The "Gangnam Style" artist had the AMAs audience on their feet doing his trademark dance when the lights suddenly dimmed and MC Hammer appeared on stage - still "Too Legit to Quit." Younger viewers might've been a little lost when Psy stopped and went Hammer-time, as the "Too Legit" single came out just over 20 years ago. But, as the YouTube clip above proves, Hammer hasn't lost his touch. Backstage, Hammer told CNN that the performance came together with the aid of Justin Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun. "Scooter Braun connected us, and [when] I spoke with Psy I knew right away that he is a good guy. I like working with good people ... I loved doing it and we had a great time together," Hammer said. "Psy is fantastic. He's shifted the planet. He's got the whole world dancing. And it's a rarity in this world. Only four people made that happen in history - James Brown, Michael Jackson, yours truly and Psy. " Psy, who even convinced Hammer into pulling on his trademark pants…
